Frequent Questions

At Roofing Army, we make sure homeowners have answers to all their roofing questions. From when we can start, which shingles we recommend, and how to prepare for installation day, to how we protect your home, ensure a nail-free cleanup, and help you decide between ridge and box vents—we’ve got you covered. We also provide details on roof lifespan, financing options, insurance coverage, and typical costs, so you feel informed and confident every step of the way.

How soon can you start?

While we can’t give a standard answer on exact roofing timelines, generally, in winter and early spring, we can install a roof within 1-2 weeks, and in late spring to fall, expect a 2-4 week wait. Most roofing projects require a building permit, which we handle for you, including any inspections—making the process as stress-free as possible. Permit costs vary by location, but we’ll clearly communicate any additional fees upfront.

Which shingles do you recommend?

While Atlas remains our top choice for asphalt shingles, we also install Tilcor granulated steel metal shingles, offering homeowners a durable, energy-efficient alternative. Our team has hands-on experience with a variety of roofing materials, allowing us to recommend the best option based on your roof’s structure, budget, and long-term needs. Whether you prefer premium asphalt or high-performance metal, we’ll ensure you get a roof built to last.

Do I need to do anything prior to my roof install day?

We make the process as easy as possible, requiring very little from you. We recommend securing any fragile items on the walls or ceilings, as vibrations during installation could cause damage. On the day of installation, work begins between 7:00 and 7:30 AM, so please move vehicles out of the garage the night before to avoid any disruption.

How do you protect my home from damage during my roofing install?

Protecting your home during a roofing installation is something we take pride in, and we tailor our setup to each job. We come equipped with protective materials like wood, tarps, and lumber, ensuring your property is safeguarded before we even start work.

How do you make sure no nails are left behind?

We will never leave your property without a thorough cleanup like some companies might, but guaranteeing every stray nail is found would be unrealistic. However, we use careful methods to ensure your yard and driveway are free of loose nails.

Are ridge vents or box vents better?

The choice between ridge vents and box vents depends on your roof's design—ridge vents are ideal for cathedral ceilings, while box vents are best for roofs with multiple slopes. If both options work, we recommend ridge vents for their better appearance.

What are ice dams?

Ice dams form when warm air in the attic melts snow on the roof, which then refreezes at the eaves, blocking proper drainage. This occurs due to heat escaping from the home, not cold air entering, leading to potential leaks as the ice builds up.

How do I know if I need a new roof?

Signs you may need a new roof include frequent leaks, missing or damaged shingles, and visible sagging or discoloration on the roof surface. Additionally, if your roof is more than 20 years old and showing wear, it might be time for a replacement.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, we offer a variety of financing options to suit your needs, including low-interest rates and flexible payment plans. During your inspection, be sure to ask your inspector about the available financing options and any current specials.

How long should a new roof last?

We highly recommend Atlas shingles for your home, as we've found them to be superior to other brands in several key areas. With proper installation and care, Atlas shingles can last between 25 to 50 years.

Will insurance cover my new roof?

Roof damage from storms, hail, or other natural disasters is often covered by homeowners insurance, but the specifics depend on your policy. While the age of your roof may impact reimbursement, most policies cover damage from events like hail, fallen trees, or fires. However, wear and tear or long-term leaks are generally not covered, and some policies may require roof inspections for older roofs. It’s important to file a claim promptly and consult your agent for details on coverage.

What’s the average cost of a new roof?

Roof replacement costs depend on factors like roof pitch, number of stories, material choice, and needed decking replacement. Steeper roofs and multi-story homes require more labor, while material costs vary. Roof square footage often exceeds a home's footprint, influencing total cost.

How long does it take to install a new roof?

Most residential roofs we install are completed in a single day, thanks to our army. Larger or more complex projects may require a second day, but we always prioritize quality, safety, and customer satisfaction to ensure your home is well-protected.
