Roof Replacement Questions

How soon can you start my roof replacement?
In most cases, we can begin your roof replacement within 7–14 days of you accepting your quote. Scheduling can vary based on material availability, weather, and project scope, but we’ll always communicate timing clearly before work begins.
What materials do you use?
We offer roofing options from several trusted manufacturers rather than pushing a single brand. Many roofing companies primarily sell one product because they receive rebates or incentives for doing so. At Roofing Army, we believe homeowners should have real choices, so we walk you through multiple brands, pricing options, and honest pros and cons so you can make an educated decision based on what’s best for your home.
Do I need to do anything prior to my roof replacement day?
We make the process as easy as possible and require very little from you. Roofing materials typically arrive about two days before your roof replacement, and the dumpster is usually delivered the day before. We recommend keeping the driveway clear so deliveries go smoothly. During installation, work typically begins between 7:00 and 7:30 AM. Securing fragile items on walls or ceilings is also recommended, as vibrations during installation can sometimes cause movement.
What happens if there's bad weather on the day of my replacement?
We prioritize the well-being of our customers and roofing teams above all else. On the day of your installation, we actively monitor weather conditions to ensure they are safe for work. Should we foresee any potential hazards, like high winds or rain, we will reach out to you to discuss the implications and may need to reschedule your project for safety reasons.
How do you protect my home from damage during my roofing replacement?
Protecting your home during a roofing installation is something we take pride in, and we tailor our setup to each job. We come equipped with protective materials like wood, tarps, and lumber, ensuring your property is safeguarded before we even start work.
How do you make sure no nails are left behind?
We will never leave your property without a thorough cleanup like some companies might, but guaranteeing every stray nail is found would be unrealistic. However, we use careful methods to ensure your yard and driveway are free of loose nails.
How long will my roof replacement take?
Most residential roofs we install are completed in a single day, thanks to our army. Larger or more complex projects may require a second day, but we always prioritize quality, safety, and customer satisfaction to ensure your home is well-protected.
Do I need to be home during my roof replacement?
No. Most homeowners are at work or even away on vacation during their roof replacement. Our team keeps you informed throughout the process and provides progress photos at each stage of the project so you can stay updated and feel confident while the work is being completed.
What if I have rotted wood?
If we find rotted or damaged decking, we’ll document it and review replacement options with you before proceeding. Any necessary wood replacement is handled as part of the project.
Do you tear off my old shingles or go over?
We perform a complete tear-off so we can inspect the roof decking, address any underlying issues, and install the new roofing system properly.
What kind of warranty comes with a new roof?
Warranty coverage depends on the materials selected and the scope of work. We’ll review manufacturer warranties and workmanship coverage with you before installation.

Roof Repair Questions

Do you handle small roof repairs?
Yes. We handle a wide range of roof repairs, from minor issues like exposed nails or damaged shingles to more involved repairs involving flashing, vents, or rotted wood.
Do you charge for repair inspections?
Yes. Roof repair inspections include a $250 service call fee, which is applied toward the cost of the repair if you choose to move forward. During the inspection, we identify the issue, take photos, and clearly explain what needs to be repaired so you know exactly what to expect.
How do I know if my roof needs repair or replacement?
A roof repair is often appropriate for isolated damage or leaks. If damage is widespread or the roof is nearing the end of its lifespan, replacement may be the better long-term solution. A professional inspection helps determine the right approach.
What are the most common causes of roof leaks?
Roof leaks are commonly caused by damaged shingles, failing pipe boots, chimney flashing issues, exposed nails, or improper ventilation. Identifying the exact source is key to a lasting repair.
How soon can you perform a roof repair?
In many cases, roof repairs can be scheduled quickly once the issue is diagnosed. Timing depends on the scope of the repair, weather conditions, and material availability.
Is a roof repair covered by insurance?
Some roof repairs related to storm damage may be covered by insurance, while others are considered normal wear and tear. We can help determine whether insurance may apply during an inspection.
Will the repair match my existing roof?
We do our best to match existing materials whenever possible. Availability depends on the age and type of roofing material currently installed.
Is there a warranty on roof repairs?
Yes, we provide a workmanship warranty on repairs when the roof is in generally good condition. If your roof is under fifteen years old and the issue is isolated, we stand behind the repair and warranty our work. If the roof is older, has widespread problems, or we recommend a replacement but you choose a repair instead, we cannot warranty it because the repair is only a temporary fix for a larger issue.

Storm Damage Questions

How do I know if my roof has storm damage?
Storm damage isn’t always obvious from the ground. Common signs include missing or lifted shingles, dents from hail, granule loss, damaged flashing, or leaks after a storm. A professional inspection can identify damage that may not be immediately visible.
Do you offer free storm damage inspections?
Yes. We provide free storm damage roof inspections to assess potential storm-related damage and document our findings for you.
Do you work with insurance companies?
Yes. We regularly work with homeowners and insurance companies during the claims process. We document damage, provide photos and reports, and help explain the scope of repairs or replacement needed.
How soon after a storm should I have my roof inspected?
It’s best to schedule an inspection as soon as possible after a major storm. Early inspections help document damage while it’s fresh and reduce the risk of additional water intrusion or worsening issues.
What happens if emergency tarping is needed?
If your roof has active leaks or exposed areas, we can install emergency tarping to help prevent further damage until permanent repairs or replacement can be completed.
Am I required to file an insurance claim?
No. Filing a claim is always your decision. We provide the information you need so you can decide whether filing a claim makes sense for your situation.
What happens if my insurance doesn’t approve the full roof?
If insurance only approves part of the work or denies the claim, we’ll review repair and replacement options with you and explain out-of-pocket costs clearly. Our goal is to help you choose a solution that fits your situation and budget, with no pressure.
How long can I expect the insurance claim process to take?
The timeline can vary based on your insurance company, but claims can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to process, depending on the complexity of the damage and required inspections.

Attic Ventilation Questions

How do I know if my attic has poor ventilation?
Common signs include excessive heat in the attic, moisture or condensation, mold or mildew odors, ice dams in winter, and uneven shingle wear. An inspection can confirm whether ventilation improvements are needed.
What types of attic ventilation do you install?
We install a range of ventilation solutions, including ridge vents, soffit vents, baffles, box vents, edge or eave vents, gable vents, and attic fans when appropriate.
Do I need both intake and exhaust ventilation?
Yes. A balanced system with proper intake and exhaust allows air to flow correctly through the attic. Without balance, ventilation can be ineffective or even cause additional issues.
Can poor attic ventilation cause roof problems?
Yes. Poor ventilation can contribute to premature shingle aging, moisture damage, mold growth, and ice dams. Addressing ventilation issues helps protect both the roof and the structure of the home.
Are attic fans always recommended?
Not always. Attic fans can be helpful in certain situations, but they must be sized and installed correctly. In some cases, passive ventilation solutions are more effective.
How do you determine the right ventilation setup?
We use the 1:150 ventilation rule to calculate the total net free vent area required for your attic based on its size. We then evaluate your existing intake and exhaust ventilation to determine whether your current setup can be improved or if additional ventilation products need to be installed to create proper balance.
What if my home doesn’t have soffits or overhangs?
Homes without soffits can still be properly ventilated. In these situations, we use edge or eave vent systems that install along the roof edge to bring fresh air into the attic. These systems replace traditional soffit intake and allow us to create a balanced ventilation setup even when the home’s design doesn’t include overhangs.
Can poor attic ventilation cause mold or mildew?
Yes. Inadequate attic ventilation can trap moisture, which creates conditions where mold or mildew can develop. Improving ventilation helps reduce excess moisture and is an important step in preventing future mold-related issues in the attic.
Will you add ridge vent to my house?
Ridge vent can be a great option, but only if your roof has enough ridge length to support it properly. If ridge vent isn’t suitable, we may recommend alternatives such as box vents, can vents, or gable vents to ensure your attic still has effective exhaust ventilation.

Tarping Questions

What is emergency roof tarping?
Emergency roof tarping is a temporary solution used to cover damaged or exposed areas of a roof after a storm or unexpected damage. It helps prevent additional water intrusion until permanent repairs or replacement can be completed.
When is emergency tarping needed?
Tarping is typically needed after storm damage, fallen trees, missing shingles, or sudden roof failures that leave the roof exposed and at risk for leaks.
How quickly can you install emergency tarping?
Response times depend on weather conditions and demand, but we prioritize active leaks and exposed areas. We’ll communicate timing clearly once we assess the situation.
Does insurance cover emergency tarping?
In many cases, emergency tarping related to storm damage may be covered by insurance. Coverage depends on your policy, and we can help document the damage for your claim.
What happens after the roof is tarped?
Once the roof is secured, we’ll review repair or replacement options with you and help determine next steps based on the extent of the damage.
How much does emergency roof tarping cost?
The cost of emergency roof tarping depends on the size of the damaged area and the complexity of the installation. In most cases, tarping typically ranges between $500 and $2,000. We’ll review the scope and pricing with you before any work is performed.

Gutter Questions

How do I know if I need new gutters?
Signs you may need new gutters include leaking seams, sagging sections, rust, peeling paint near the roofline, water pooling near the foundation, or gutters pulling away from the house.
Do you install seamless gutters?
Yes. We install seamless gutters that are custom-formed on site to reduce leaks and improve overall performance compared to sectional gutters.
What size gutters do you install?
We install both 5-inch and 6-inch gutters, depending on your roof size, pitch, and water flow needs. We’ll recommend the appropriate size to handle runoff effectively and help prevent overflow issues.
How long does gutter installation take?
Most gutter installations are completed in one day, depending on the size of the home and the scope of work.
Are gutter services eligible for financing?
Yes. Gutter installation and related services are eligible for financing, just like our other exterior services.
Do you replace or repair damaged fascia or soffit?
If we find damaged fascia or soffit during a gutter inspection or installation, we’ll review repair options with you before proceeding to ensure proper support and attachment.
Can new gutters be installed without replacing my roof?
Yes. Gutter installation or replacement can typically be completed independently of a roof replacement, as long as the roof edge and fascia are in good condition.
Can you match my existing gutter color?
Yes. During your estimate, we’ll bring a color sample chart and work with you to match your existing gutter or trim color as closely as possible.
Do you offer leaf protection?
Yes. We offer several leaf protection options at different price points. During your estimate, we’ll review the available options and help you choose the solution that best fits your needs and budget.
