What Sets Roofing Army Apart in Oxford

Who We Are

Roofing Army was built by Aaron Scott, a licensed residential builder who has spent his entire life in the home service industry and never lost his passion for the craft. Aaron lives right here in Oxford on West Drahner Road, raising two young daughters with his wife, and he runs this company the same way he runs his home: with pride, integrity, and a refusal to cut corners.

Several of our crew members are Army veterans, and that ethos runs through everything we do: show up, do the work right, and serve the people counting on you. We are not obsessed with profits. We are obsessed with roofing. We built Roofing Army to be everything the other guys are not, and we are proud of every shingle that proves it.

How We Do Business

No High-Pressure Sales

We give you the information, answer your questions, and let you decide on your own time.

We Don’t Chase the Big Ticket

If a repair solves the problem, that’s what we recommend — even if it means a smaller job for us.

We Right Our Wrongs

We’re not perfect. No contractor is. But when something isn’t right, we own it and fix it. Every time.

Project Manager on Every Job

In-house crews. On-site oversight. No random subcontractors, no unsupervised work, no surprises.

Installation Standards

6 feet of ice & water shield at all eaves
Full ice & water coverage on slopes under 4/12

Protecting Your Property

Rubber wheel dump trailers on every job — not steel wheels that tear up your driveway. Catchall system to protect landscaping, siding, and windows during tear-off. Roofing Challenges Oxford Homeowners Face

Oxford sits at one of the higher elevations in Oakland County, and homes here take the full force of winter storms rolling in from the northwest across open farmland. Heavy snowfall, sustained below-zero temperatures, and ice accumulation from late November through March create roofing challenges that communities further south rarely deal with at the same intensity.

Ice Dams

The single biggest roofing issue in Oxford. Heat escaping through a poorly ventilated attic melts snow on the upper roof. That water runs down to the cold eaves, refreezes, and forms a dam that backs water up under shingles and into your home. We see this every winter on older village homes along Mechanic Street, Burdick Street, and the historic downtown — houses built with minimal soffit vents, no ridge vent, and inadequate insulation.

Wind & Storm Damage

Sustained winds of 40 to 60 mph during severe weather can lift shingle tabs, break seals, and blow off ridge caps. Spring thunderstorms bring sudden downbursts and occasional hail. If you notice shingle debris in your yard or see flapping shingles from the ground after a storm, call us for a free inspection.

Failed Pipe Boot Flashings

One of the most common leak sources we find on Oxford roofs. The rubber boots around plumbing vent pipes crack after 10 to 15 years of UV exposure. On a 20-plus year old roof, the pipe boots are almost always compromised. This is one of the first things we check during every inspection.

Freeze-Thaw Cycling

From February through April, daytime temps climb above freezing while overnight lows drop back into the teens. This daily expansion and contraction loosens flashing around chimneys and vent pipes, breaks sealant bonds, and accelerates granule loss. Particularly hard on older roofing systems.

Aging Shingles Past Warranty

A large number of homes in Oxford’s established neighborhoods were roofed 20 to 30 years ago with three-tab shingles that have long exceeded their rated lifespan. These roofs are brittle, missing granules, and one storm away from a serious leak. If your roof was installed before 2000, it is likely time.

Local Roofing Insights for Oxford

Oxford Village

Centered around M-24 and Burdick Street. Homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s with steep-pitch roofs, narrow soffits, decorative dormers, and complex geometries. These homes require experienced crews and careful flashing work. Many still have original roofing systems well past their lifespan.

Oxford Township Neighborhoods

Established neighborhoods along Seymour Lake Road, Lakeville Road, and Drahner Road feature mid-century ranch and colonial homes, many with original roofs 25 to 30 years old. Newer subdivisions like Oxford Lakes, Waterstone, Indian Springs, and Country Creek have modern designs but face the same harsh northern Oakland County weather.

Lakefront & Estate Homes

The area around Stony Lake and neighborhoods off W Drahner Road include larger estate homes with expansive roof areas, multiple valleys, and steep pitches requiring specialized equipment. Homes near Davis Lake and along Lakeville Road north of the village face particularly heavy snow loads due to elevation and exposure.

A Community That Takes Pride

Oxford is served by Oxford Community Schools, and homeowners here care about their properties. From historic Victorians on Washington Street to modern builds in new developments, each style presents its own roofing needs. We have worked on homes in every part of Oxford and understand what each neighborhood requires.

Building Permits & Codes in Oxford

No Permit Needed

Oxford Township

Oxford Township does not require a building permit for residential roof replacements. We can get your project scheduled and completed without waiting on paperwork or inspections.

Permit Required

Village of Oxford

The Village of Oxford requires a building permit for all roof replacements. Permits are handled through the village office on East Burdick Street. We take care of the entire process — application, fee payment, and final inspection scheduling.

Permit Fee Breakdown

Permit application fee$15 (jobs ≤ $10k) or $50 (jobs > $10k)
Roof with tear-off$80 flat fee (overlay: $60)
Refundable bond$500 for jobs over $10k (refunded after final CO)
Re-inspection fee$75 if needed
Contractor registration$15

Typical total: $130 in fees ($50 app + $80 tear-off) plus $500 refundable bond if the job exceeds $10k. Jobs under $10k: just $95, no bond. All fees are included in our estimate.

Not sure if you’re in the village or township? Homes around M-24, Burdick Street, and the downtown core are generally in the village. Everything outside is Oxford Township. We know exactly which jurisdiction covers your address.

Regardless of permit requirements, every Roofing Army installation follows Michigan Residential Code and manufacturer specifications. We install ice and water shield well past the minimum 24-inch code requirement on every Oxford roof because of the heavy ice dam exposure at this elevation. Permit or no permit, the work is done to the same standard.
